The Virtus Heritage team places a strong emphasis on communication and education to raise awareness of cultural heritage, recognising its potential for economic opportunities and community benefits, as well as its contribution to education and sustainability. We believe in collaborating with experts from various fields, including anthropologists, to enrich our understanding of heritage.
Our consultants are adept at tailoring induction and heritage awareness training programs for private organisations and State and local government agencies. These programs empower staff, particularly those involved in site management, to handle heritage sites and objects effectively while complying with legal requirements.
Our training offerings have included specialised oral history training for Indigenous Rangers, workshops dedicated to recording cultural heritage sites and artefacts, and educational initiatives and site tours designed for school children.
We are deeply committed to community engagement and education as a powerful means of sharing the valuable stories, places, and artefacts we uncover through our archaeology and cultural heritage work. Virtus Heritage frequently engages in community outreach, education, and interpretive heritage projects that encompass both Aboriginal and historical heritage. We are well-versed in developing interpretive plans, signage, reports, and educational resources tailored for school children.
Our team’s dedication to excellence in Indigenous engagement has earned us peer nominations, underscoring our extensive and sustained collaborations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across NSW.
Additionally, we skilfully manage complex consultations involving Aboriginal communities, government agencies, the National Trust, and local historical societies and heritage groups. Upholding the principle that Aboriginal people should have primary control over their cultural heritage, we approach community consultation with respect and a proactive stance, aligning with the ethical standards set by the Australian Archaeological Association and statutory guidelines.
Furthermore, our consultation services nurture respectful and proactive stakeholder relationships. Our primary focus is facilitating meaningful dialogues to ensure cultural heritage values are appropriately considered in decision-making processes with the collaborative support of anthropologists and other experts.
