Virtus Heritage is an Australian company that provides specialist expertise in archaeology, history and heritage management. Our main office is located in Kingscliff, Northern NSW supported by our archaeologists in Sydney, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and Dunedin, New Zealand. Our team has extensive experience throughout Australia and overseas in the investigation, assessment and management of archaeological sites and cultural landscapes. We believe heritage is integral to community well-being and identity, being the valued stories, places and material culture that we pass down to future generations.
We work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, proponents and government agencies to provide ethical and practical heritage outcomes. Our interdisciplinary team, affiliations and technical partnerships allow us to match each project with the necessary professional experience, academic skills and local expertise. Our heritage advice and reports are prepared by experienced professionals and communicated clearly, balancing statutory reporting and legislative requirements, client needs and community expectations.

A National Guide for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities to Identify and Protect Unmarked Graves and Cemeteries
We are proud to make the A Grave Responsibility to Honour Our Ancestors: A National Guide for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities to Identify and Protect Unmarked Graves and Cemeteries available here for communities around Australia. This Australian Government guide was developed in collaboration with the Tweed-Byron LALC and the Mapoon Aboriginal community, and funded by the Australian Government.
The guide aims to provide clear and practical advice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia to identify and protect the unmarked graves and burial sites of their ancestors. The importance of Indigenous leadership, knowledge and history is always at the forefront of this publication.
